German twins Daniela and Annette Felder, of London-based design duo Felder Felder, have unveiled their unveiled their first sustainable dress as part of their SS17 collection which showed at London fashion week. The dress has been crafted from carbon fiber sourced from the BMW i3 and i8.
Influenced by BMW “i” lineup of eco-friendly models, the metallic grey skater dress required more than 100 hours of work to complete and 97% of the material used was carbon. The unique texture and shine of the material provides a futuristic finish, which remains lightweight and strong, but is more tactile and daring compared to other fashion fabrics.
Interestingly, the material used to create the dress was made at the exact same location where BMW produces the carbon fiber for the i3 plug-in hybrid / electric model and the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car.
Apt timing for such a brilliant fashion move as 2016 not only marks the BMW Groups 100th birthday, but also Felder Felders 10th anniversary since launching their label in 2007.
